Not all men…

The events in the last few weeks have disturbed most people in India. I am talking about the rape case(s) in Kolkata, India and others across the country.

“Not all men.”

This is a standard statement that most men come up with when there are cases of serious crimes against women in India. So I decided to take this and study more about it. If not all men, then WHICH men?

Do you know the sad part about this?

Every single detail about the women who have been raped is available on the internet — Name, place, occupation, even caste (it plays an important role in justifying if the women deserved it).

So I started searching about the names of men who have raped, their profiles, what they do, where they come from, their castes and more. As expected, very few details are available.

But I did not want to give up and read more podcasts news interviews and articles to understand who are the actual perpetrators. While I might be generalizing men, I am trying to understand who does it.

From a little bit of my research, I figured out that these 3 categories/classes of men are involved in cases like these the most.

Upper caste men

Upper-class men

Socio-economically backward men
